Christmas Home Decor Series: Alena Manuylov

In our home, Christmas really is the most WONDERFUL time of the year! Starting with a family adventure deep into the forest … or in our case, more like Apple Hill, to pick out that one perfect tree – to spending time with loved ones, eating more than one really should, and most importantly celebrating the real reason for the season. For me, it’s truly such a magical time and I’m so excited for this opportunity to share a little of that holiday magic with you!

This year I went for a natural woodsy feel, paired with a hint of glitter and a classic black & white scheme. I always start with the tree to set the mood for the rest of my house. This year we were a little over-zealous by getting a 12 foot christmas tree, which I might add, was a challenge and quite the workout trying to decorate.

I am proud to say that I didn’t end up buying any new ornaments this year, as most have been collected over the years from places like Target, Homegoods, Marshall’s, and Z Gallerie. The tree skirt was a no-sew DIY using black and white pinstripe fabric from Ikea. If you notice, there’s currently no christmas presents under the tree, as I’m by far the biggest procrastinator you will meet and refuse to do my shopping till a week before Christmas.

Ohh wait, but my christmas decor never stops with the tree! I love spreading christmas cheer throughout the entire house by adding fresh garland and greenery wherever I can. The birch trees are another reoccurring theme throughout the house. I have been waiting to try this idea since last year, after seeing the beautiful rustic birch tree displays at Pottery Barn. My hubby had the perfect idea to stack the trees against the wall to create an enchanted forest right in our dining room.

My “Christmas in the Woods” theme continues to the staircase where I bundled a few birch trees in burlap and added a hand-made garland to the glass handrail. I used silver wire string lights from Restoration Hardware for both the staircase and the garland on my mantel.

I tried to keep the decor for my mantel very rustic and simple with a couple of antique finds, craft fair purchases, and a few DIY snow globes. As much as I love the smell of a fireplace in the winter, we don’t tend to use our fireplace a lot, so thought it’d be the perfect place to display my collection of books. Between all the textbooks I needed for college and my obsession with vintage novels, I had more than enough to fill the fireplace.

That “pinch of glitter” turns into a snow storm when it comes to my table setting. I’m normally not huge on table settings, but this year I couldn’t resist the adorable animal plates from West Elm. I really wanted to capture the shimmer of freshly fallen snow by using lots of white, gold, and glitter. The vintage flatware (a gift from my grandmother), gold tinted mercury glass, and small birch tree stumps all work together to make my inspiration come to life.

I really hope you enjoyed my christmas home tour and take the time to find a little inspiration to create some christmas magic in your own home!

Christmas Home Decor Series: Julie Bulanov

Over the past week I’ve been in my Christmas decorating mode. This year I wanted to keep things simple and a little rustic. I love putting holiday touches on our home and today I’m so excited to be sharing all of the details with you.

Lets start with the Christmas tree! I’ve used lots of different Christmas color schemes over the years, but this is the first time I’ve ever done all white and I’m so in love with how it all turned out. I decorated our tree with clear and white ornaments which I got at Home Goods and Marshalls. The owls I found at McLenden’s Hardware, and the baby owls are from JoAnn’s. I wrapped the tree stand in white dotted burlap (also from JoAnn’s). To add a bit of frost to the tips of the tree, I used fake snow spray.

My absolute favorite part is setting the table. I have always loved the look of  branches hanging over the table, so this year I decided to try it out. I got the branches at Michael’s and hung some cotton balls to make it look like snow. Most of my table wear is from Home Goods, TjMaxx and Marshalls.

My rustic wall decor was built by my hubby and I just change up the flowers or the branches with every season. The Christmas pillows are from Nordstrom. I could not walk past them without bringing them home.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my home and have found some inspiration. Our personal styles might be different but we all share one thing in common, and that’s the love and magic of Christmas.

Can we just take a moment to admire how adorable Julie’s Christmas PJ’s are? Gosh, I’m in awe of all these lovely photographs. I just wanted to take a moment to say a HUGE thank you to Julie for sharing her beautiful home decor with us. She has always been an inspiration to me. I mean there’s no doubt she’s got incredibly beautiful imagination and talent. My absolute favorite part of her decor is probably  the way she wrapped the tree stand. I would have never in a million years thought that you could do that, but it looks incredible!! What did you love the most about her beautiful decor? Don’t be shy to start naming a million things, because I totally understand where you’re coming from 😉

There is something so special about Christmas! I always keep in in my mind what Christmas is about and that is Jesus of course! Decorating your house for Christmas its an experience of joy and happiness that brings the whole family! I always like to get my Christmas shopping early before the crowd so i can find great deals and beautiful pieces before they are gone. I don’t usually like to spend way too much money on decoration that is seasonal so I only decorate the living room and not the family room.

We went to cut or Christmas tree with the whole family and that was a whole lot of fun! Of course I had to pick my favorite tree “Silver Tip”. Decorating a Silver Tip is a lot of fun! Mainly because all the peaces surely stand out so you have so much options with what ornaments you choose, and surely there is sooo many cute ones to choose from! I LOVE large pieces, those are just my most favorite! Definitely looking forward finding some great deals after Christmas on those so I can reuse them next year. This year I kind of started a new collection and definitely expanding and saving them for next year!

I love WHITE and GOLD…. Those are my colors. Anything I see in stores that is gold i have to pause to take a look.. Also I love sparkles! I know they can get everywhere but there is something about a sparkly Christmas decoration 🙂 I also love the beauty of simple greens. I always love playing with them throughout the seasons.

For wrapping i love same colors of course plus some Kraft color paper is always a must. There is so much presents to wrap and soon I will get to those as well:) For now I am slowly adding little things to my living room, and I really liking it how its turning out. I love checking discounted stores for my deco like TJMaxx, Marshall’s, HomeGoods, Michaels and then of course Target, Pottery World and Pottery Barn. I just love Pottery Barn, everything in that store is magical for Christmas!
SO, that being said, I am wishing everyone lots of fun decorating this year! Just try to make it most memorable and if you have little kiddos, let them help out! its always fun for them! Just try to make the most fun this season!!!
